Influence of Pruning Severity on Phenology, Physiological Characters and Yield Attributes in Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Italia

Pruning is considered as the most important cultural practice, as it helpsto controlthe growth, crop load and alsothe quality of bunches. A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of pruning severity on phenology and physiological characters with respect to yield in grape (Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Italia at Horticultural College and Research Institute, TNAU, Coimbatore intwo seasons namely summer and winter season crop during December, 2012 - January, 2014. The pruning treatments were replicated four times with four vines per replication in a randomized block design. The results revealed that for optimum crop load, the treatment ‘T₃’ i.e., Pruning 50% of the canes for crop yield and 50% of the canes for vegetative growth was found to perform better in both the seasons.
