A Study was conducted using Rice var. CO47 as test crops at Ponnaniar Basin, Trichy District, Tamil Nadu to assess the Nitrogen availability and uptake of soil applied withBGAand Azolla in different rice cultivation systems. The treatments were allocated to each plot by following random principle. Representative soil samples at 0–15 cm depth were collected and analysed. Since, nitrogen is considered to be a most important nutrient for improving the productivity of the crops. Application of different treatments favourably influences the Nitrogen availability of soil over the inorganics alone applied plot. Among the different treatments application of recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) along with blue green algae (BGA) and Azolla was found to be superior in improving soil health over the other treatments. The above finding revealed that inorganic nutrients along with BGA and Azolla would able to sustain the soil fertility for a longer period by meeting the demands of present and future generation.
