Optimization of Physical Parameters on Polyketide Red Pigment Production from Penicillium purpurogenum

Abstract

Penicillium purpurogenum, a polyketide natural red pigment producer, was isolated from soil and its optimal physical conditions were studied under submerged fermentation. The optimal physical parameters for pigment production were as follows: pH 8.0 (35.08 CVU mL−1); temperature 30°C (30.14 CVU mL−1), Incubation time 168 h(28.53 CVU mL−1), agitation 200 rpm (24.5 CVU mL−1) and inoculum age 5 days (28.55 CVU mL−1).
