Evaluation of Chrysanthemum (Dendranathema grandiflora Tzelev.) Varieties for Yield and Quality under Subtropical Hills

Abstract

An investigation was carried out with twenty varieties of chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev) at M/s Salem Green Plants (P) Ltd., located at Yercaud, Salem district, Tamil Nadu during the period from August 2012 to June 2013. Among the twenty varieties, Amalfi (V20) recorded the highest plant height at harvest (135.87 cm), flower stalk length (93.07 cm), flower bud diameter(5.39cm) and number of flower stalks per square metre (78.38). The variety Cinderella Yellow (V6) showed highest flower stalk girth (3.39 cm). The variety Calmiro Sunny (V7) recorded highest number of leaves (62.07), early flower bud appearance (39.33 days), more number of flower buds per plant (52.51), early harvest (88.20 days) and longest vase life period (13.11 days). The variety Punch White (V15) showed highest weight of cut stem (48.98 g).
