A field experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of integrated nitrogen management (INM) on nutrients uptake, grain and straw yield and nitrogen use efficiency of short duration rice variety ADT 43 at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai during kharif season. Five main plot treatments viz., M1- control, M2 - FYM @12.5 t ha−1, M3vermicompost @1.5 t ha−1, M4 - vermicompost @ 2.0 t ha−1 and vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha−1 and sub plottreatments viz., S1 – leaf colour chart (LCC) critical value <3, S2 - LCC critical value <4 and S3-Recommended dose of nitrogen were replicated thrice in a split plot design. The results revealed that nutrients uptake, grain and straw yield and nitrogen use efficiency of 49.0 percentage were recorded higher under application of vermicompost at the rate of 2.5 t/ha along with nitrogen addition based on leaf colour chart critical value less than 4. Application of vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha−1 along with nitrogen addition based on LCC critical value <4 was registeredhighest yield of 6702 kg ha−1 when compared to control was 5279 kg ha−1. The percent yield increase was 21.2 percentage compared to control.
