The study was conducted in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu where cyclone, flood and drought were the frequent occurring natural events. The events occurs often and affect most commonly the rural farmers engaged in agriculture. The common perception of rural households in the study area is that climate has changed for the worse with increased frequency in recent years. The amount of financial support availed by the affected farmers was Rs. 11313.33/ha in cyclone affected area, Rs 13637.5/ha in flood affected area and Rs. 8506.05/ha in drought affected region. Though the crop insurance scheme aimed to restore the crop loss of the farmers, there existed a variation in the total percentage of crop loss restored due to the homogenous area approach followed by the insurance agencies for assessing the crop loss.
