Economics of Different Herbicides for Weed Control in Rabi/Summer Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Under Irrigation

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted during 2010–11 at Main Agricultural Research Station Farm, Raichur to assess the yield potential and economics of different herbicides for weed control in rabi/summer groundnut under irrigated condition. The results of investigation indicated among the chemicals which received Pre-Emergence application of pendimethalin (38.7%CS) followed by Post-Emergence application of imazethapyr (12%SL) at 25–30 days after sowing registered significantly number pods per plant (31.73), pod weight per plant (13.18 g), pod yield (28.17q/ha), hundred kernel weight (34.13 g), shelling percentage (72.87%) and higher net returns (Rs 46,269 ha−1) and it was on far with weed free check treatments and the treatments (T11, T10 and T9) which received PRE application of pendimethalin (38.7% CS) plus POE application of fenaxy-p-ethyl, quizalofop ethyl and propaquizafob at 25–30 DAS (41943, 43252 and 43,877 Rs ha1, respectively). Weedy check registered significantly lower net returns (Rs 2315 ha−1) compared to rest of treatments. Weed free check and the treatments which received preemergence followed by post-emergence herbicides recorded higher yield potential and cost of cultivation compared to all other treatments. Benefit cost ratio was significantly higher treatments which received Pre-Emergence application of pendimethalin plus Post-Emergence imazethapyr at 25–30 DAS (2.92) as compared to other treatments.
