An experiment comprising 45 F1’s and their F2’s obtained from crossing of 10 diverge genotypes mungbean (Vigna radiata L. wilczek) in diallel a fashion excluding reciprocals. The experiment was lay out in RBD with 3 replications. Observations were recorded onquality (100-seed weight, seed density, protein percentage) and seedling traits (root length, shoot length, root dry weight and shoot dry weight). Non additive gene action and dominant alleles were more frequent for all the traits in both the generations. Positive and negative alleles among the Parents distributed asymmetrically. One or more than one major gene controlled the characters and average degree of dominance indicated the presence of over dominance for all the traits in the both generations. Considering the role of non-additive components of genetic variance, it is suggested that the characters may be improved through biparental mating followed by bulk pedigree method of selection.
