Advances in Post Harvest Handling of Grapes: A Review

Today, grape becomes one of the most remunerative fruit crop, liked by people of all categories. In India, 78 percent of grape produce is used for table purposes; nearly 17–20 percent is dried for raisin production, while the remaining 2 percent is used for manufacturing of juice and wine. Fresh grape exports from India are estimated at 108585 MT valued at 315.80 croresduring 2012. With high quality grapes meeting international quality standards being produced, India has a good future to expand its fresh grape, raisin and wine industry in European Union and South Asian countries. Harvesting at right time and proper handling of bunches go a big way in promoting better shelf life and retains freshness of berries during transit and storage.
