Consequences of GA3 and Other Plant Growth Regulators on Hybrid Rice Seed Production

Abstract

The experimental material comprising both the parental lines of hybrid NUSD-3 i.e., IR58025A and NDR5026-3-1R were treated with 14 treatment combination of different growth regulators and one untreated check were grown in randomized block design with three replications. The results indicated that the variance due to treatments was highly significant for all the characters, except number of spikelets per plant and biological yields. The exogenous application of various plant growth hormones significantly increases grain yield with a range of 4.97 g to 7.46 g. Treatment T3 (GA3 100g) exhibited highest significant increment in grain yield followed by T2 (GA3 75 g), T1 (GA3 50 g), T5 (KNO3 0.1%), T8 (GA3 100g + Boric acid 0.1%), and T7 (GA3 75 g + Boric acid 0.1%). The other yield components were also significantly increases with the foliar application of growth regulators. It is concluded that treatment combination T3 (GA3 100g) gave best results and could be used to enhance hybrid rice seed production and substitutes of GA3.
