Abstract

An investigation was carried out on correlation and path coefficient analysis for thirteen characters on 23 genotypes of maize The phenotypic correlation among the yield components showed positive correlation of plot yield with number of kernels per row followed by cob diameter, cob length, tassel length, plant height, leaf width, ear height, test weight and number of kernel rows per cob. The path coefficient analysis at the phenotypic level revealed that traits viz., days to 50% tasseling, tassel length, ear height, cob length, cob diameter, number of kernels per row and test weight had direct and positive effect indicating the effectiveness of direct selection.
