Soil Fertility of Different Rice Based Cropping Systems as Influenced by Pre Kharif Crops
Abstract
A field study was conducted during pre kharif, kharif and rabi 2012–13 on sandy clay loam soils of Agricultural College Farm, Naira to find out the effect of preceding crop on the soil fertility status. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with four replications and seven treatments. Significant differences were noticed on organic carbon and available nitrogen after harvest of pre kharif crops. Significantly superior performance of soil organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium after kharif rice was observed with sunhemp, while greengram was the next best treatment and fallow registered the lowest.
