Abstract

In 2008–2011, tomato whitefly Bemisia tabaci B biotype was detected in Bangalore. The correct identification of B. tabaci problematic since it is highly polymorphic with extreme plasticity in key morphological characters that vary according tothe host. RAPD-PCRwas used to detected the B biotype of B. tabaci in Bangalore. White flies were collected from cultivated plants from five different localities. RAPD analyses using six selected primers reliably identified the B biotype of B. tabaci. Among the primers only OPB11 and H16 primer showed clear resolution of bands (220 bp) were obtained. The presence of B biotype was confirmed in five places of Bangalore, Karnataka
