Abstract

An attempt was made to assess the genetic variability in the mutated populations in M2 generation. A total of seven quantitative traits such as days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and single plant yield in M2 generation were studied for the effect of mutation by gamma rays. The results showed high genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance with significant enhancement in yield and yield contributing traits were noticed. It was concluded that the high yielding mungbean genotypes were possible through gamma irradiated population.
