Effect of Organic Amendments on Pre-emergence and Post-emergence Seedling Rot in Okra

Abstract

An experiment was carried out to find out the effect of organic amendments on damping off/seedling rot disease in okra. The results obtained on organic amendments (Preventive) revealed that all the treatments, least average per cent mortality was recorded with treatment Neem seed cake (27.02%), followed by Poultry manure (31.75%) and Vermicompost (36.98%). The maximum average mortality was recorded with the treatment Gypsum (51.66%) and Castor cake & Groundnut oil cake (48.33%). Similarly, the averaged maximum per cent reduction in damping off with the treatment Neem seed cake (60.28%) was recorded with followed by Poultry manure (53.28%) and Vermicompost (45.64%). Comparatively minimum per cent reduction in damping off was recorded with the treatment Gypsum (24.00%) and Castor cake & Groundnut oil cake (28.90%).

The results obtained on organic amendments (Curative) revealed that all the treatments, least average per cent mortality was recorded with treatment Neem seed cake (26.90%) followed by Vermicompost (34.20%) and Poultry manure (36.98%), The maximum average mortality was recorded with the treatment Gypsum (55.00%) and Safflower cake & Castor cake (51.66%). Similarly, the averaged maximum per cent reduction in damping off with the treatment Neem seed cake (60.71%) followed by Vermicompost (49.99%) and Poultry manure (45.83%). Comparatively minimum per cent reduction in damping off was recorded with the treatment Gypsum (19.52%) and Safflower cake & Castor cake (24.40%).
