Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at the Agricultural Research Farm, BHU, Varanasi, to study the impact of two mutagens, gamma rays and EMS on some biological parameters in two rice varieties, BPT-5204 and Adamchini. Three doses (10, 20 and 30 kR) of gamma rays and one concentration of EMS (0.02 M) were used in the present experiment. The results revealed that with the increase in the doses of gamma rays and combined treatments, the germination %, seedling height, pollen and spikelet sterility % was decreased. The highest % of germination was recorded for the control treatment for all the biological parameters. Combined doses (gamma rays + EMS) had more pronounced effect on biological parameters as compared to single doses of gamma rays.
