The selectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins or lectins and involve in interactions between leukocytes and endothelial cells while zebra fish serve as an important model organism to study biological processes in vivo. In the present study we analyzed uncharacterized protein LOC558139 precursor of Danio rerio which resemble to selectin protein. Phylogenetic analysis shows its similarity to P-selectin like protein of Danio rerio, Xenopus (Silurana) tropicalis, and Equus caballus. This selectin like protein contains lectin C and sushi domain which is an important component of selectin protein. Phylogenetic results indicated a relatively distant evolutionary relationship between selectin like protein of mammals and granule membrane protein of Homo sapiens. In silico model reveals its structural similarity to selectin, single-chain transmembrane glycoproteins and bind with PSGL-1. It may be assumed that selectin like uncharacterized protein LOC558139 precursor of Danio rerio may be carbohydrate-recognizing protein.
