High values for phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) was recorded for grain yield/plant (g). High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for plant height, seed yield/plant and 100 seed weight. Correlation studies showed that number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and harvest index had positive and significant correlation with seed yield indicating a strong association among these characters. Correlation between harvest index and number of pods per plant was positive and significant. High positive direct effect on seed yield was exhibited by number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and days to maturity. No. of seeds per pod had maximum positive direct effect on seed yield. Results indicate that days to 50% flowering and days to maturity are most stable characters and had minimum environment effect.
