Causes and Reasons for Changing Trend of Agro Biodiversity

The present study highlights the causes and reasons for changing trend of agro biodiversity. The study conducted in tribal areas of the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.

The list of tribal respondents from the selected village wasobtained from the Horticulture department. A sample size of 100 tribal respondents was fixed for the study. The technique proportionate random sampling was followed for the selection of respondents from three habitations from Nilgiris district viz., kunjappanai, mantharai and thuthikarai. Causes and reasons responsible for changing trend of agro biodiversity was collected by Focus Group Discussion (FGD) andpersonal interview.

Major causes and reasons as perceived by the tribes were analysed and given.

The present study found that, manmade and naturalhazards were responsible for changing the trend of agro biodiversity.

This type of studies may help the policy makers to identify the causes and reasons for changing trend of agro biodiversity and take necessary action in various dimensions towards conservation and restoration of agro biodiversity in tribal areas.
