Studies on the Response of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Growth Parameter to Different Planting Systems, Varieties and Organic Manures

Abstract

A field trial was conducted at Crop Research Farm of the Department of Agronomy, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences -Deemed University, Allahabad during the kharif season 2010–11 to Studies on the response of Sesame growth parameter to different planting systems, varietiesandorganic manures. Experiment comprised of three planting systems, viz., (M1) raised bed, (M2) ridgeand furrow and (M3) flat bed, three varieties, viz., (V1) AKT 8, (V2)Madhuri and (V3) Gujarat 1 and organic manures, viz., (O1) farm yard manure and (O2) neem cake. Ridge and furrow system registered significantly higher plant height (123.15 cm), number of functional leaves plant−1 (34.37), number of branches plant1 (2.06), dry weight (6.59 g palnt−1) over Raised bed and flat bed planting system. Application of organic manure in the form of neem cake has recorded significantly higher plant height (120.16 cm), number of functional leaves plant−1 (33.60), number of branches plant−1 (1.96), dry weight (6.37 g palnt−1) over the farm yard manure. Among the varieties Madhuri had recorded significantly higher plant height (128.03 cm), number of functional leaves plant−1 (36.66), number of branches plant−1 (2.24), dry weight (7.14 g palnt1). Interaction effects were found significant.
