Genetic Evaluation of F2, F3 and Biparent Crosses (Bip) in Mustard (Brassica juncea. L)

Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the nature and magnitude of genetic variability during rabi 2012–2013 in Randomised Complete Block Design with two replications. The comparision of mean and range for different characters between BIP, F2 and F3 indicated that mean value of BIP were higher than the corresponding mean value in F3 and F2 for all the characters except days to maturity and days to first flower in C-II and C-III. Whereas in C-I mean value of BIP were higher than the corresponding mean value in F2 and F3 for plant height, number of branches per plant and seed yield per plant. Higher GCV and PCV in BIP as compared to F3 and F2 were observed for number of siliqua per plant and seed yield per plant in all the crosses and also for number of primary branches per plant in C-III. Heritability estimates in BIP and F3 was higher than F2 for all the traits in all the crosses. High heritability with high genetic advance was recorded for number of siliqua per plant in all the generations of three crosses and for plant height in BIP of C-I and C-III, F2 and F3 of C-II.
