The rainfall is the one of the fundamental physical parameter among the climate as for the development of society is concern and it determines the drought as well as the environmental factors for the particular region. In this article, we used the inverse distance weighting (IDW) method to estimate the rainfall distribution in the Manjalar sub-basin of Vaigai basin. The study is based on 31 years of the monthly rainfall data for 13 rain gauge stations. While analyzing the long term average of monthly and annual rainfall, the annual rainfall of the region is 876.9 mm, of which the winter, summer, southwest and northeast monsoon records 243.5 424.5, 33.4 and 175.5 mm respectively. The stationat Horticultural Research Station (HRS), Kodaikanal receives the highest rainfall of 1590.3 mm whereas Bodinayakkanur records the lowest of 616.2 mm. The annual variability ranges from 23 percent to 39 percent. The North and North West part of the region experience the heavy rainfall and south, south east and north east receives moderate rainfall, whereas the south west and central part of the region experiences the lowest rainfall.
