The disposal of large quantities of biodegradable waste without adequate treatment results in significant environmental pollution. The paper mill effluent which is also known as “black liquors” is discharged as a waste from paper industry. This is the major source of aquatic and soil pollution because intense brown colour which results in the toxic to aquatic organisms and exhibits a strong mutagenic effect because of having very high BOD and COD content, highly acidic pH, with other organic and inorganic toxic. It also responsible for the blockage of photosynthesis, eutrophication and low pH acidifies soil affecting agricultural crops. A method is described for the bioremediation of paper industry containing paper industry wastewater as asample in order toobtain a sample for the analytical purposes. For solving the above problem we used the fungal strain (Aspergillus niger). During the study, the role of carbon source i.e. glucose and nitrogen source i.e. yeast extract was studied for decolourization. From the results it was observed that a maximum colour reduction of 64.3%, COD reduction of 37.03%, TSS reduction of 0.09%, TDS reduction of 0.06% and pH changes of 6.5 is achieved by Aspergillus niger and data indicated that Aspergillus niger is giving better result with glucose.
