Abstract

The performance of six parental lines of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) and their thirty F1 progenies were tested for some important yield related traits at experimental field of the Department of Vegetable Crops, Periyakulam, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Significant variation in mean performance was noticed for all the characters studied. The hybrids were found best for different traits. The best performing hybrids for different characters include K1xArka Lohit forfruit girth, fresh fruit weight and dry fruit weight. PKM 1 x LCA 625 for days to 50% flowering. The Hybrid Pusa Jwala x K1 for plant height and fruit length. LCA 625 x K1 for Number of fruits per plant, thousand seed weight, fresh fruit yield and dry fruit yield.
