Impact of Paclobutrazol and Potassium Nitrate on Fruit Quality Characters of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) Cultivar Imampasand.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted in the farmer's field in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari District during the year 2011–12. This trial was laid out in a split - split plot design with three replications. Twenty year old uniform sized trees of mango cv. Imampasand spaced at 9 x 9 m were selected for this experiment. Paclobutrazol (Cultar-23 SC) was applied as a soil drench at 2.5 ml/m−2 of canopy diameter. The treatment was imposed at the third week of different months viz., April, May, June, July, August and September. The results indicated that soil drenching of paclobutrazol at 2.5ml/m−2 of canopy diameter during the month of August was effective in enhancing fruit characters like fruit length, width, number and weight besides increasing quality characters like TSS, reducing sugars, ascorbic acid and carotenoids while decreasing acidity of fruits.
