Water Use Efficiency, Yield, Available Nutrient and Economics of Greengram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) as Influenced by Plant Density and Irrigation Management

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out during the summer season of the year 2013 at SAUD, Sardarkrushinagar to study the “water use efficiency, yield, available nutrients and economics of green gram (Vigna radiata (L.) wilczek) as influenced by plant density and irrigation management”. The highest water use efficiency (3.28 kg ha−1mm) observed under application of irrigation at critical growth stages, while in case of spacing, it was recorded highest (2.56 kg ha−1mm) under spacing of 30 x 10 cm. The seed yield (1107 kg ha−1) and stover yield (1970) were observed significantly higher under the 1.0 IW:CPE ratio followed by 0.8 IW:CPE ratio. In case of spacing 30 cm x 10 cm gave significantly higher grain yield of green gram. Same trend was observed in case of stover yield. An interaction effect between irrigation schedule and spacing levels on seed yield and net realization were found significantly higher under 1.0 IW/CPE ratio with 30 x 10 cm spacing (I3S1) followed by treatment combination 0.8 IW/CPE ratio with 30 x 10 cm spacing. Protein content and available nutrients failed to exert it's significant effect due to irrigation schedule, spacing and also their interaction.
