Nutritional Health Status of Children; A Study in Nalgonda District

The future of the society depends on the quality of life of the children. Nutritional needs change throughout life, depending on genetics, Age, Sex rate of growth, activity and many other factors. Nutritional status is the condition of health of the individual as influenced by the utilization of nutrients. Nutritional needs also vary from individual to individual. The major objective of this research is “to develop comprehensive data base onhealth profile of people in the proposed uranium processing plant at Sherpalle, Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh”, by assessing the health status of the children and the quantity and quality of food intake by the people in the three zones i.e., Core zone (0–5 km), Buffer zone – I (5–15 km) and Buffer zone –II (15–30 km) of the proposed uranium processing plant at Sherpalle, Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh. 13, 241 children of 0–15 years of age were assessed from the three zones of Nalgonda District. They were assessed for nutritional health status by applying Clinical Nutrition Survey Chart and Food Frequency Questionnaire. The nutritional deficiency signs and symptoms were observed more in the buffer zone – I followed by the core zone children. But, the nutrient intake and consumption frequency of all the 7 food groups were more among the children in buffer zone – I followed by buffer zone - II.
