Growth and Seed Yield of Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) as Influenced by Weed Management Practices

Abstract

A Field experiment was conducted at Anand, Gujarat during rabi season of 2011–12 with ten weed management practices to study the growth and seed yield of coriander (Coriandrum Sativum L.) as influenced by weed management practices. Weed management practices significantly reduced weed count and dry weight of weeds and improved growth attributes(plant height and branches/plant), yield attributes (umbels/plant, umbellatae/umbel, seeds/umbellatae and test weight) and seed yield as well as haulm yield. Interculturing fb hand weeding carried out at 20 and 40 DAS resulted in maximum reduction in weed count (monocot, dicot and sedges) and total dry weight of weeds (7.07 kg ha−1) by giving 83.81 per cent weed control efficiency at harvest. This treatment also gave the highest seed (2069 kg ha−1) and haulm yield (3013 kg ha−1) of coriander and remained at par with treatment of hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS and pre-emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1000 g ha−1. Maximum Net return (Rs. 33,659 ha−1) and B:C ratio (2.60) were obtained by interculturing fb hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS followed by hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS and pre-emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1000 g ha−1.
