Suitable Water Soluble Fertilizers for Foliar Spray Increasing the Yield of Pigeonpea

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted at College of Agriculture, Bijapur, toknow the effect of foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers on yield of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) kharif 2013. The experiment was laid out with twelve treatments replicated thrice in randomized block design. The Pigeonpea seed yield was higher (1272 kg ha−1) with the foliar spray of 19: 19: 19 @ 2% compared to all other treatments. The increase in yield was achieved through improvement in yield attributing characters like seed weight per plant and 100-seed weight which were higher with the foliar application of water soluble fertilizers. In the present study, seed weight per plant (23.0 g) and 100-seed weight (12.5 g) were significantly higher with the foliar spray of 19: 19: 19 @ 2%. The seed weight per plant, number of pods per plant were higher with the foliar application of water soluble fertilizers. Significantly higher number of pods (193.7) was recorded with foliar spray of 19: 19: 19 @ 2% when compared to foliar spray of 0: 52: 34 at 2% (181.1). Similarly, the total dry matter production per plant at harvest was significantly higher with foliar spray of 19: 19: 19 @ 2% (142.8 g plant−1) followed by foliar spray of 0: 52: 34 at 2% (129.1 gplant−1, respectively). Among the treatments foliar spray of 19: 19: 19 at 2% recorded higher harvest index (0.25) and was on par with all other treatments, except the foliar spray of 28: 28: 0 at 2% (0.20) and control (0.15) which recorded the lower harvest index (0.15).
