Weed Management by Cultural and Chemical Practices and their Effect on Phytotoxicity and Growth, Quality and Yield Parameters of Cluster Bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Anand Agricultural University, Anand to study the different weed management practices for better weed control, phytotoxic effect of herbicides on crop growth and higher quality seed yield of cluster bean. The dominant weed species among monocot weeds was Echinochola crusgalli and in dicot weed species Digera arvensis was observed during the growing season. Total weed dry weight (monocot and dicot weeds) was the lowest in interculteringfb hand weeding carried out at 20 and 40 DAS at 25 and 50 DAS and at harvest. Minimum weed index was observed with the interculteringfb hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS. This treatment also recorded higher yield attributes, protein content and seed and stover yield which remained at par with chemical treatment of pendimethalin+imazethapyr (pre-mixed) @ 800 g ha ’PE fb HW at 30 DAS. Herbicide imazethapyr shows phytotoxic effect on cluster bean crop at 7 and 14 days after herbicide application, later on effect will be recover by the crop.
