Abstract

The present investigation was carried out with nine treatment combinations of three bidi tobacco varieties (GT 5, ABT10 and GABT11) and three suckericide treatments (hand desuckering, pendimethalin @ 0.45% + 2% urea and fatty alcohol @ 6% + 2% urea). The results indicated that the variety GABT 11 is physiologically more efficient as this found to be superior in respect to leaf area, dry weight per unit leaf area, Leaf Area Index (LAI), Net Assimilation Rate (NAR), Relative Growth Rate (RGR), Harvest Index (HI) and thereby higher yields. While, application of chemical suckericides pendimethalin @ 0.45% + urea 2% and fatty alcohol @ 6% + urea 2% was found to be the equally superior as compared to hand desuckering irrespective of varieties for improving the morpho-physiological parameters and yield as well as control of axillary and ground suckers.
