Response of Different Varieties of Bottle Gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standl.) with Nature of Cultivation on Vegetative Growth
Abstract
An investigation on Response of different varieties of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standl.) with nature of cultivation was carried out during summer 2012 i.e. from February to June in the open field condition at Horticulture Instructional Farm, C. P. College of Agriculture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar. Experiment was laid out in Split Plot Design with three replication. The results revealed that among two nature of cultivation, trelling system exerted the great influence on various growth parameters like maximum length of main vine at 60 and 90 DAS (222.00 and 490.69 cm, respectively), maximum number of secondary branches at 60 and 90 DAS (22.73 and 37.76 respectively), highest total number of leaves per plant 258.60, maximum leaf area per plant and chlorophyll index at 60 DAS (3281.29 and 22.84 respectively). In case of varieties, maximum length of main vine (20.00 cm, 255.57 and 530.43 cm) and number of secondary branches (6.00, 24.10 and 40.07) at 30, 60 and 90 DAS respectively were registered in variety Pusa Samridhi. Variety Pusa Samridhi also recorded highest total number of leaves (288.90). Maximum leaf area (3412.87 cm2) and chlorophyll index (SPAD meter reading) (24.15) at 60 DAS was observed in variety Local and Pusa Santishthi, respectively.
