Abstract

Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary lies between 26° 40′ – 26°45′ N and 94°20′- - 94°25′ E. The sanctuary covers an area of 20.98 km2, out of which 19.49 km2 covers tropical semi evergreen forest on the flat plains of Brahmaputra River. It is famous for seven species of non-human primates. But this small patch is highly rich with other flora and fauna. Through this study a check list of butterfly diversity in the said sanctuary has been prepared. This list includes 172 species of butterflies belonging to 104 genera.
