An attempt has been made inthis field on rearing and market of mulberry silk cocoon in the mid hills of Himanchal Pradesh. The production of silk from the silkworm by rearing practice on commercial scale is called sericulture. Althougha number of species are found, producing silk but only few species are used for sericulture industry like Mulberry silk worm. It is also known as Bombyx mori. Cocoon stage is found in the life history of mulberry silk worm. The threads are wound around the cocoon in concentric manner. Now-a-days sericulture has become one of the most important cottage industries in a number of countries like Japan, India, China, Italy etc. The Himanchal Pradesh is an important state for rearing and marketing of mulberry silk cocoon. Marketing of cocoon is an important feature of silk production. The price value of cocoon is never remain same. It vary from season to season depending upon yarn market. Palampur is associated with silk seed production unit which distributing silk seed over the entire state of Himanchal Pradesh. There are different channels are involved in marketing of silk like reeling, twisting, bleaching, dyeing and weaving after cocoon production. Marketing of silk provides a good revenue to government. So marketing of silk plays an important role in economy. For enhancing the production of silk by rearing government should be encourageds the rearing of silkworm. By doing this the structure of Indian economy will be strong.
