A number of four Aspergillus terreus isolates were screened for the lovastatin production by different fermentation technique. Wide variations were observed in the quantity of lovastatin produced by these isolates. The results revealed that, the Aspergillus terreus isolate JPM3 produced the maximum lovastatin under solid state fermentation conditions when wheat bran used as a substrate. Other isolates of Aspergillus terreus recorded lower yield of lovastatin compared to JPM3 isolate in all fermentation conditions.
