Abstract

Mangrove forests are regarded as the most productive wetlands in the world on account of the large quantities of organic and inorganic nutrients released in the coastal waters by these ecosystems. Adopting mitigation strategies for climate change and carbon accounting by mangroves in Gujarat is studied in this research article. The total value of Carbon Sequestration for the present and potential area of mangroves in Gujarat comes to about 929.97 Crores per annum. Mangroves are not only remunerative to the local communities but also play an important role in the assimilation of atmospheric CO2 in the form of biomass and soil carbon stocks.
