Studies on Protein Quality Parameters in Germplasm of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Abstract

Ten germplasm of Desi and Kabuli chickpea namely BGM 568, JKG 5303, KKG 306, BG 2083, JSC 61, NDG 5–21, Udai, NDG 54, KWR 108, and BG 256 were taken in present research work. After harvesting the seeds of all the germplasm were collected separately and used for physical and protein quality parameters. The soluble protein content was higher in Udai (11.48%, 60 DAF) at various intervals followed by KKG 306 (11.27%, 60 DAF) and BG 2083 (11.25%, 60 DAF). The storage protein namely albumin and globulin were recorded maximum in Udai (9.67%, 60 DAF), (66.67%, 60 DAF) followed by NDG-5-21(8.86%, 60 DAF), (66.32%, 60 DAF) and KKG-306 (9.31%, 60 DAF), (66.22%, 60 DAF). On the basis of overall observation it can be concluded that germplasm Udai, NDG 5–21, KKG 306 and BG 256 were rated superior as compared toother germplasm regarding physical and protein quality parameters of Desiand Kabuli chickpea.
