Fruit Quality and Shelf Life as Influenced by Organic Mulching and Pre Harvest Chemical Sprays on Mango Cv. Amrapali
Abstract
The study showed significant differences among the treatments. Significantly higher fruit weight (250.61 g) was observed with the treatment Mulching + CaCl2.6H20 @ 2% (T4) followed by T5: Mulching + CaCl2.6H20 @ 4% (234.58g). Maximum fruit yield (95.27 kg) was recorded in the treatment Mulching+ CaCl2.6H20 @ 2% (T4) whereas minimum yield (59.80 kg) observed in Control (T8). Maximum TSS recorded significantly higher (19.78°Brix) in the treatment T4: Mulching+CaCl2.6H20 @ 2% followed by T5: M ulching + CaCl2.6H20 @ 4% (19.47°Brix), whereas Control (T8) recorded minimum (17.60 0Brix). Maximum total sugar and ascorbic acid content was recorded in the treatment T4 followed by T5. Maximum shelf life (10.67) and overall acceptability score (8.33) was recorded in the treatment Mulching+CaCl2.6H20 @ 2% (T4). Therefore use of mulching along with spray of calcium chloride (2%) is recommended for improving fruit quality and shelf life of mango cv. Amrapali.
