The field experiment was conducted during kharif 2013 to study the Effect of pre and post emergent herbicides on growth, yield and weed control efficiency in maize (Zea mays L.). The experiment was carried out in College of Agriculture Shimoga. There were ten treatments comprising of Tembotrione 42 SC at 100 g a. i. ha−1, Tembotrione 42 SC at 110 g a. i. ha−1, Atrazine 50 WP at 1000 g a. i. ha−1, 2, 4-D Na salt 80% WP at 1000 a. i. ha−1, Tembotrione 42 SC at 100 g a. i. ha−1 + Atrazine 50 WP at 1000 g a. i. ha−1, Atrazine 50 W Pat 1000 g + 2, 4-D Na salt 80% WPat 1000 g a. i. ha−1, Atrazine 50 WP at 1000 g a. i. ha−1fb Tembotrione 42 SC at 100 g a. i. ha−1, Atrazine 50 WP at 1000 g a. i. ha−1 + inter-cultivation, Weedy check and Weed free check. Significantly higher plant height and leaf area were recorded in application of Atrazine 50 WPat 1000 g a.i. ha−1fb Tembotrione 42 SC at 100 g a.i. ha−1 (187.37 cm and 4872.29 cm2 plant−1), significantly higher number of leaves, average net assimilation rate and higher average absolute growth rate and lower weed index were recorded in application of Atrazine 50 WP at 1000 g a.i. ha−1+ intercultvation (11.18/plant, 0.14, 1.23 and18.90%), significantly higher leaf area index total leaf area duration and grain yield were recorded in application of Tembotrione 42 SC at 100 g a.i. ha−1+ Atrazine 50 WP at 1000 g a.i. ha−1 (3.71 345.35 days and 58.81 q ha−1).
