Any agricultural management and planning of soil and water conservation measures it is necessary to know the rainfall pattern of the region. This knowledge in rainfall sequence of dry and wet periods helps us in making decisions on crop planning and soil and water management. In this study, Marcov Chain probability model was performed to explain the long term frequency behavior of wet and dry weather spells during the main rainy season at Coonoor railway of Coonoor taluk in the Nilgiris district. As a result conclusions were obtained regarding the specific time for soil and water conservation measures as a part of bioengineering measures to control landslides.
