Influence of Composted Coir Pith, Farmyard Manure and Panchagavya on Soil Chemical Properties in Capsicum (Capsicum annuum L. Var. Grossum)

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out atAgricultural Research Station, Arsikere, Karnataka, India to study the effect of composted coir pith, farmyard manure and panchagavya on soil chemical properties in capsicum (Capsicum annuum L. var. grossum). The results revealed that significant differences were observed in soil organic carbon, available N, P2O5 and K2O with sources, levels of organic manures and panchagavya application. Among different sources, maximum organic carboncontent (0.54%), available N (300.33 kg ha−1) and available P2O5 (9.54 kg ha−1) were recorded with application of farm yard manure (FYM) compared to composted coir pith (CCP) application (0.49%, 285.52 and 9.09 kg ha−1 respectively). Whereas maximum available K2O (267.41 kg ha−1) was recorded with CCP compared to FYM application (255.85 kg ha−1). Among fertility levels, FYM at 200 per cent N equivalent recorded maximum available P2O5 9.87 kg ha−1 and potassium 259.33 kg ha−1respectively. Application of CCP at 200 per cent N equivalent recorded higher available P2O5 9.32 kg ha−1, while CCP at 150 per cent N equivalent recorded maximum available K2O (273.89 kg ha−1). Application of FYM and CCP recorded pH of 6.60 and CCP 6.51 with one panchagavya spray. Organic carbon (0.57%) and available P2O5(9.76 kg ha−1) was recorded with application of FYM and 6 per cent panchagavya spray compared to CCP (0.49% and 9.26 kg ha−1). Available N (304.89 kg ha−1) and available K2O (261.22 kg ha−1) were recorded with application of FYM with 3 per cent panchagavya spray compared toCCP(available N 304.89 kgha−1), while CCPwith 6 per cent panchagavya spray recorded available K2O of 273 kg ha−1.
