An attempt was made to assess the food consumption pattern of self-help group women in Theni District of Tamil Nadu. Data were collected both at group and at members’ level through well-structured interview schedule and focused group discussion. The study revealed that rice, milk, pulses, meat were consumed at the rate of 0.6 kg, 1.25 litre,.3 kg,.5 kg respectively by rural families. The expenditure on rice, pulses, fruits, egg, fish and meat had almost doubled when compare to previous years, whereas expenditure on vegetables has tripled.
