Studies on the Effect of Varying in vitro Environment on the Growth and Sclerotia Development of Sclerotium oryzae Catt.

Abstract

Allium sativum @5% concentration showed maximum inhibition on the growth of Sclerotium oryzae with no sclerotia formation. Among the other phytoextracts evaluated @ 15% concentrations each, sclerotial formation were observed in Phlogacanthus thyrsiflorus, Lantana camara and Acorus calamus and the rest inhibited the sclerotial formation completely. All the three species of Trichoderma evaluated showed antagonistic effect on the pathogen and sclerotia formation was inhibited due to overgrowth by the antagonists. Among the ten phytoextracts tested for the germination of sclerotia, Allium sativum showed complete inhibition followed by Allium cepa. No growth and sclerotial formation was observed in all the fungicides evaluated.
