Yield Enhancement of Brinjal Through Integrated Crop Management in Kalaburagi District of Karnataka

Abstract

Brinjal is one of the most common vegetables grown throughout the country for its purple, green or white pendulous fruit. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalaburagi has made 48 demonstrations in farmer's field at different villages of Kalaburagi district during the period from 2011–12 t0 2013–14 to enhance the yield of brinjal throughintegratedcrop management(ICM). The result showed that, on an average the highest yield achieved by adopting integrated crop management was 306.6 quintals ha−1whereas the corresponding yield ranges under farmers practices was to 286.2 quintals ha−1. Adoption of integrated crop management will increase the yield 7% over farmer practices. The average technological gap, extension gap and technological index were noticed 193.4 quintals ha−1, 20.3 quintals ha−1 and 38.68% respectively. Economics of data indicated that an average of Rs. 2, 59, 812.5 ha−1 was recorded net profit under recommended practices while it was Rs 2, 24, 578.8 ha−1 under farmer practices. Cost benefit ratio was 5.4 under demonstration, while was 4.4 under farmer practices. Practicing of integrated crop management will improve the farmer socioeconomical level.
