Abstract

The study was conducted in Nizar taluka of South Gujarat during the period of 2011–12 to estimate the cost structure, resource use efficiency, marketing cost and problems faced by the farmers of turmeric growers. The study revealed that turmeric production wasprofitable and the average benefit cost ratio (BCR) was found above one. The estimated results showed that the average value of Cost-A, Cost-B, Cost-C1 and Cost-C2 was 97746, 119595, 121823 and 134005/ha respectively. The overall return over cost-C2 was 2065 `/ha and overall cost of production over cost Cost-C2 was 507.98 qtl./ha. The results of resource use efficiency showed that all inputs were positively related to the output of turmeric. Break-up cost of marketing of turmeric growers was observed to the tune of 30 `/qtl. Marketing problem, storage facility, processing facility have been reported as the major constraints by the turmeric growers. The study has suggested some measures to increase productivity and income of farmers in the study area.
