Abstract

The manifestation of hybrid vigor in 28 F1 hybrids was studied along with 11 parents. Significant heterosis over better parent and standard check was observed for fruit borer infestation and fruit yieldper plant. The hybrids JBL-10-04 x GBL-1 and JBL-088 x Pant Rituraj exhibited negative but desirable heterosis for fruit borer infestation. While, ABR-223 x GBL-1, NSR-1 x Pant Rituraj and JBG-10-208 x GJB-2 were identified as potential hybrids based on heterosis attained for fruitborer infestation and fruit yield per plant so they should be recommended for commercial cultivation after proper testing. Further, the hybrids, which also possessed high per se performance may be exploited for isolating high performing transgressive segregants in advanced generation
