Performance of Rose Cultivars Under Different Planting Densities

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of different planting densities on performance of rose cultivars. There are nine different treatments consisting of different planting densities and cultivars. Results revealed that maximum yield per ha was obtained under S3: 0.60 × 0.60 m (Triple row) system of planting, whereas the lowest yields were obtained from S1: 0.90 × 0.90 m. Among the cultivars it was found that Gladiator had the highest flower diameter (7.22 cm), maximum flower weight (11.20 g) and longest flower stalk length (17.71 cm), while Sophia had the highest flower yield per ha. In terms of growth parameters, highest plant and plant spread was noticed under S1: 0.90 × 0.90m. Maximum flower stalk length and flower weight was noticed in S3V2, whereas highest yield was observed under S3V1. Performance of rose cultivars revealed cv. Sophia to be best in terms of most of the parameters. It was concluded that total yield per ha was increased with increasing planting densities, whereas plant height and plant spread got decreased.
