Abstract

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) is an important dollar earning crop of India. Although, lot of improvements have been made in cashew towards the increase in production, productivity as well as quality of cashew kernel, but still no serious efforts have been made for proper utilization of large quantities of cashew apples which is being wasted. There is urgent need for proper utilization of cashew apple to various products for human consumption or medicinal purposes. The present investigation, was therefore, carried out at All India Coordinated Research Project on Cashew, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology during 2013–14 to screen out the suitable cashew types for physico-chemical properties for preparation of RTS(Ready-To-Serve). The experiment was conducted with ten elite cashew types by adopting CRBD with three replications. The results revealed significant variations among the ten elite cashew types for both physico-chemical properties and RTS of cashew apple. The overall results indicated that the cashew types such as BPP-8, Bhubaneswar-1 and H1608 (Dhana) exhibited better physico-chemical properties. The cashew types such as BH6(Jagannatha), Bhubnaneswar-1, H-303 and H1608(Dhana) exhibited very good acceptability as RTS on the basis of organoleptic test.
