The present investigation was carried out to elucidate the information on genetic variability and correlation analysis for oil yield and its component traits in the F5 generation obtained by crossing low and high oil genotype of groundnut. The estimates of PCV and GCV were high for pod yield per plant, kernel yield per plant and oil yield per plant. High heritability coupled with high GAM was observed for 100-kernel weight, 100-pod weight, pod yield per plant, kernel yield per plant and oil yield per plant. Simple selection would further improve these traits. The correlation coefficient for oil yield with its component traits was estimated. Oil yield per plant had significant and positive correlation with number of pods per plant, 100-pod weight, 100-kernel weight, shelling percentage, pod yield per plant, kernel yield per plant and oil content. Hence, these traits can be considered as selection indices for oil yield per plant.
