Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is an important noncereal crop throughout the world and is highly recommended for ensuring global food security. The disease common scab is caused by Streptomyces scabies (ex. Thaxter) Lambert & Loria. The common scab is a serious disease which leads to drastically reduce the market value of the produce due to inferior quality. A pathogen of common scab Streptomyces was isolated by using glucose aspargine agar medium from infected potato tubers collected from a scabby potato fields in different regions of Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The taxonomy of the organism was determined by cultural, morphological and histopathological characteristics.
